Each Cherokee town or village was made up of individuals belonging to one of seven distinct Cherokee clans-
1.The Blue Clan-made medicine used to maintain healthy children that was formulated from a bluish coloured plant.

2.The Long Hair Clan- wore their hair in extravagant hairdos and walked in a proud manner as well as held membership for the Peace Chief.

3.The Bird Clan- were considered caretakers of the birds and also hunters of the birds.

4.The Paint Clan- held membership for a town or village’s medicine men.
Members- vacant

5.The Deer Clan- were the deer hunters and also the fast runners or messengers.

6.The Wild Potato Clan- gathered the wild potatoes for food.
Members- vacant

7.The Wolf Clan- held membership for the Cherokee war chiefs as well as being the only clan who was allowed to kill wolves.
